IGUNGA residents in Tabora region have applauded a good job done by Helpdesk Engineering Tanzania Ltd who is constructing Lake Victoria Water project from Ziba to Nkinga for initiating a good environmental protection programme.

Speaking at the occasion held at Ziba, Ndembezi and Nkinga wards in Igunga district to implement the programme, they said the contractor has demonstrated practically what should be done by all project up takers.

They noted that apart from safeguarding the environment the programme has also been set to promote well being of communities through sharing health care awareness to all communities who live within the area covered by the project.

Igumila Village Chairman, Jongo Emanuel said they received more than 100 tree seedlings from Helpdesk Engineering Tanzania Ltd and were distributed to all villagers so as to be planted at their premises.

He clarified that implementation of various projects like water, mining, road construction and electricity line undergo land destruction hence causing environmental disorder, so tree planting initiatives would combat the situation.

‘We laud Helpdesk Engineering Tanzania Ltd for her good initiative on implementing this project, because it will help us to reinstate our environment despite the destruction’, he said.

Igunga District Council Environmental Officer, Joseph Mafuru said the initiative laid by the Contractor consists of giving seminars to all local government leaders on the importance of protecting their environment and health care awareness.

To make this programme viable, he said 500 tree seedlings have been distributed to all villages in 3 wards of Ziba, Ndembezi and Nkinga, adding that each was given 100 trees. He insisted that through this initiative, villagers will not surfer from environmental desolation or deficiency and there will be no shortage of rain, good air, fertile land and so forth.

Ndembezi Ward Councillor , Otto Mayunga testified that deforestation brings more destruction to the land, hence urged other project contractors to learn from Helpdesk Engineering Tanzania Ltd.He added that the government has ordered leaders at all levels (national, regional and district) to address environmental protection issues to all communities including project dealers and action to be taken to those who are against this.

Ugaka resident Christina Lazaro praised The President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dkt Samia Suluhu Hassan for disbursing t.sh 5.3 billion for extending Lake Victoria water supply project to more than 50,000 people in 5 wards in the district.

She added that despite the benefits of the project, tree planting initiatives set by the contractor will also help to recover the environment accordingly.
